Progress Report 4 - w/c 13.10.08

hi there

it has been a month exactly since my last update, a month since my knee operation and a month that has seen the financial world turned on its head and inside out and today at least we can breath a little more steadily! To add to my daily challenges I am also having my flat redecorated and although it was meant to be a quick and dirty, it still requires a fair amount of attention, not to mention the upheval - Chobe and I are sharing one room and the hallway at the moment, she doesn't use the bathroom, often anyway ; ) my wonderful uncle earl has taken on the challenge to transform my flat, so far partitions have come down, carpets have come up and as we speak he is sanding the floors. So apart from the dust, the lack of space, i now only have to deal with no access to my kitchen, so lots of take outs, no tv, internet (no bad thing really) and nowhere to sit, still it will be worth it and when finished some of you reading this may even be invited to a house warming : )

so what's my progress on the dakar? well, to start, my knee is on the road to recovery. a lovely Becca at Six Physio (best physio company in London) based down at the Leadenhall studio, has been making me sweat, bouncing on trampoleens, sqatting, steps, trying to get me to cycle and basically strengthen the muscules around my knee. internally, i won't really know how successful the op has been for another couple of months. overall the surgeon operated on the correct knee and no organs were mistakenly removed - I made very sure that the marked the right leg with idemnible ink, or was it my left?? anyway, the keyholes were pretty small and my knee does not look much bigger than normal, i don't have the dainty knees of my atheltic cousins ben and guy, i share the other family genes ; )

i am still studying motorbike maintenance and am getting to grips with the 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines, bore sizes, compression ratios, valve timings and recently have successfully removed, replaced and bled the master brake cylinder, calipers and front discs of a CB500, Trips, you'd be proud ; ) not sure what's in store this afternoon, i think it is front forks, which is just as well as my ktm is showing some problems, but i have not ridden my bike now for an entire month. off to see my other physio, Mark bender, Six Physio is his company and having met him over five years ago, woulud recommend him to anyone. He's sorting my back, i managed to put my back out while laid up in bed with a sore knee...next !!!

i'll get some photos up soon

would like to mention that my bro, Barney, is now a licenced helicopter pilot, bloody good effort!!

AND

my cousin Guy and Sarah have just had twins, Alex and Jake, both boys, hooray!! Sarah must be feeling so relieved and over 15LBS lighter!! Little Nell is going to have her hands full as the big sister, lucky boys : )

that's another story - I currently have a mole grips attached to the shower tap
